Ty Hapus, a unique respite project for Alzheimer’s disease in South Wales

Ty Hapus guestsTy Hapus is a unique and specialist day time service for people with early onset Alzheimers disease and other dementias, focusing on those diagnosed under 65 and their famillies.

Ty Hapus is a unique charity in that we work with the Alzheimer's Society to provide day time support to those with dementia and their carers and loved ones. Dementia can have a devastating effect on families, and all too often care has to be given not only to those suffering from Alzheimer's and other dementias, but also to the carers and loved ones supporting them.

Our patrons include Professor Julie Williams, who with her team at Cardiff University, is leading groundbreaking research into early onset Alzheimers Disease.

All Blacks World Champion coach Sir Graham Henry, esteemed author AA Gill, TV star and broadcaster Fiona Phillips and West End star Sophie Evans and Diane Englehardt of the Moondance Foundation are our patrons.

As well as offering unique daily respite for those suffering with early onset, in an age appropriate, dignified and beautiful environment in a refurbed Edwardian Doctor's Surgery in Barry, Ty Hapus also has the Moondance cafe attached to the daily respite project, which offers a wonderful facility to those of any age with dementia, and their families.

The Moondance Cafe offers a calm, safe and comfortable environment with daily newspapers. magazines and boardgames. For others, it is a safe quiet place for those with dementia and their families to sit with a tea or a coffee.

There is also a Well Being room with a small but beautiful hairdressing and beauty salon where independent therapists can offer our guests extra special services.

Ty Hapus is unique and it is hoped that this groundbreaking new centre in Wales will be a blue print for the rest of the UK.
